This privacy policy informs you about the scope of the processing of your personal data.
B. Data Processing
In operating our website, we process data, including data transfer by disclosure.
There is an adequacy decision by the EU Commission for data transfers to the USA: the EU-US Privacy Shield. The Commission has certified that the guarantees for data transfers under this framework meet EU standards. Where we transfer data to the USA, we indicate that our service providers participate in the EU-US Privacy Shield.
The specific data, purposes, legal basis, recipients, and third-country transfers are detailed below:
a) Log Files
We log visits to our website. The following data is processed: name of the accessed webpage, date and time of access, data volume transferred, browser type/version, operating system used, referrer URL, IP address, and the requesting provider. This is necessary to ensure the website’s security and is based on our legitimate interest under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Log files are deleted after 7 days unless needed for legal reasons.
b) Hosting
All data processed as part of website operations is stored by our hosting providers. This is necessary to run the site and is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
c) Contact
If you contact us, we process your data (name, contact details if provided, and your message) to respond. This is based on Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR. We use service providers to handle such inquiries.
d) Newsletter
To regularly provide updates about our services, we offer a newsletter. Upon subscription, we process the data you enter (email and optional info). We request the following consent:
“[ ] I would like to receive the Berlitz Augsburg newsletter. I can revoke my consent at any time via email or the unsubscribe link.”
Newsletter distribution is based on your consent under Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR. It uses a double opt-in process and is documented to meet legal standards.
e) Customer Account
If you open a customer account, you consent to the storage of your personal data (name, address, email address, bank details) and usage data (username, password). This allows us to identify you as a customer and enables you to manage your orders. We request the following consent:

f) Purchase Processing
We process your order data to fulfill the contract under Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR. We share your address with delivery companies and may share email or phone for scheduling. We share payment data with payment processors.
g) Appointment Booking via Calendar
If you book an appointment via our form, we process your data (name, contact details, language of interest) to manage the booking. This is based on Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR. We use service providers for this.
h) Careers Section
If you apply for a job, we process your data (e.g., name, email, location) and submitted documents to handle your application. This is based on § 26 BDSG. If needed for legal purposes, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR may also apply.
i) Website Analytics and Marketing
Our website does not use cookies.
aa) Umami Cloud
We use Umami Cloud, a privacy-focused web analytics service provided by Umami Software Inc. (USA), to collect anonymized usage statistics about our website.
Umami operates entirely without cookies and does not store any personal data. It collects only anonymized information such as page views, referrers, browser types, screen sizes, and country of origin. It is not possible to identify individual users.
Data processing is carried out on the basis of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR as part of our legitimate interest in analyzing website usage in order to improve our online offering.

C. Data Retention Period
We store personal data only as long as necessary or until consent is revoked. Legal retention periods may apply (up to 10 years).
